Tribulus terestris is an annual plant that is known in traditional Bulgarian medicine by the name "Babi Teeth", and in other parts of the world it is called cat's head, bull's head, devil's thorns, devil's eyelash. The names of the herb come from its curious appearance, which includes hairy stems and leaves, and small spikes on the fruit. The herb is found in southern Europe, parts of western Asia and China.

Tribulus fruits are popular in Chinese medicine for the treatment of eye problems, edema, high blood pressure and heart disease. In Indian medicine, it has been associated with the treatment of impotence, poor appetite, heart disease, jaundice and low back pain.

The root and fruit of tribulus terrestris contain: several steroid saponins, proteins, phenols, flavonoids, glycosides and large amounts of vitamin C.
